Tool (2) - Convent Hostiary

Pair of nineteenth-century manual forging tools, with long metal handles and rectangular heads cast in iron, bearing the initials “A.R.B.F.” in relief. Although their shape resembles cattle-branding irons, these pieces could have been used in religious or artisanal contexts to stamp symbols onto host dough or angel bread before baking.

They could also have been used in traditional bakery to mark special loaves, in convent confectionery for liturgical sweets, in ceramics workshops as seals on raw clay, in leatherwork to engrave initials, or even in rural carpentry to identify belongings. The initials suggest institutional or personal use, possibly linked to a convent, workshop, or family. Their wear and patina reveal years of use, adding character and historic value.
