Description from the seller
A photobook by Masatoshi Osanai, published by Million Shuppan. Widely regarded as the first Japanese photobook devoted to the theme of “facial restraint.” The volume features an onslaught of devices that cover or immobilize the face—gags, blindfolds, gas masks, and related apparatus.
Unlike many SM-oriented works, it contains relatively little in the way of full leather bondage gear. Instead, it emphasizes experimental and improvisational restraints using stockings, tape, everyday materials, and unusual masks (such as pilot-style masks or diving-mask–like apparatus). The photography is marked by refined composition and lighting influenced by Helmut Newton and Robert Mapplethorpe, giving the images an aesthetic that leans toward the erotic yet distinctly art-oriented.
Obi text (translated):
“Leather and rubber steal sight, seal off hearing, and strip away language. The living body is transformed into something other—objectified, estranged. A non-comic drama of the face. At the far end of this metamorphosis appears either the beauty of the mask, a wasteland of pleasure, or the tombstone of ecstasy.”
