Elegant gilded wall mirror in Isabelline style, made between the late 19th and early 20th centuries in Spain.
The mirror features at the top a pediment with vegetal and floral motifs and a central medallion. The frame is also decorated with vegetal motifs and fine moldings that do not compete with the prominence of the upper part. The mirror shows some light cracks in the upper left corner, in addition to some cracks that do not affect the overall view in the wooden pediment.

About the Isabelline style
The so-called Isabelline style develops in Spain during the reign of Isabella II, approximately between the 1830s and 1860s, in a context marked by the consolidation of bourgeois society and the renewal of decorative tastes in domestic interiors. In decorative arts and furniture, this style fully responds to the historicist and eclectic currents typical of 19th-century Europe, adopting and reinterpret­ing models from different artistic traditions of the past. The Isabelline proper was equivalent to the English Victorian style and the French Second Empire.
Formally, the Isabelline style is characterized by the combination of ornamental repertoires inspired by Baroque and Rococo, along with elements inherited from the Renaissance and Neoclassicism. In furniture, curved lines, dynamic structures, and rich, meticulous decoration prevail, with an abundance of volutes, vegetal motifs, cartouches, and ornamental carvings. It is also common to use noble woods, gilding, marquetry, and metallic applications, resources that reinforce the ornamental and representative dimension of the pieces.
It constitutes a characteristic manifestation of 19th-century eclecticism in Spain, recovering and reinterpret­ing historic styles to achieve a particularly decorative aesthetic, aimed at the display of wealth by the upper classes.
