Box - Wood

Charming rectangular box in natural wood, the sides carved in bas-relief with a rich figurative and botanical decoration: scenes of figures in an animated landscape, blooming cherry trees, bamboo and stylized birds. The lid features a similar composition, finely chiseled, highlighting the artisanal craftsmanship of Chinese workshops from the late Qing dynasty.

The box is ringed with dark brown stained wooden strips that emphasize and protect the edges. The front is adorned with a round brass lock, typical of boxes from this period, although the mechanism does not seem complete.

The interior is left bare, revealing the beautiful grain of the wood used, with a light and harmonious figuring, contrasting with the carved and patinated exterior.

Chinese workmanship, late Qing dynasty or early Republic (around 1880–1920).
