Elegant Italian mid‑century coffee table dating to 1950–1960, with a natural onyx top and a solid cast brass base in the Rococo Revival Hollywood Regency style, measuring 80 × 49 × 48 cm.
Description from the seller
Elegant Italian-made mid-century coffee table (circa 1950–1960). The piece stands out for the refined juxtaposition of the richness of natural stone with classic metal workmanship, fully in the Hollywood Regency style.
The Top:
The surface is made from precious natural multicolored onyx. Unlike common marble, onyx offers extraordinary translucency (backlit visibility) and a color palette ranging from cream to amber, with deep rust-colored veining. The slab is solid and features a mirror polish in excellent condition.
The Base:
The structure is finely chased cast brass with shell (rocaille) and acanthus leaf motifs, typical of Rococo/Louis XV style. The Cabriole legs terminate with elegant claw feet. The base retains its original patina, having been gently cleaned to preserve its historic charm.
Condition:
The piece is in excellent condition for its era. No cracks, chips, or restorations are reported on the onyx slab. The brass structure is solid and stable. As is traditional for this type of furniture, the slab rests on the base to avoid mechanical tension and preserve the stone’s integrity.
