Ge Ancient Phrygian geometric amphora with painted monochrome brown decoration showing a bird among reeds, dating to the 6th–5th century BCE, about 29.6–30 cm high and 28 cm wide with a 16.5 cm mouth, in good condition with a slight lip restoration and one handle reattached, acquired in 2023 from Galerie/Antiquaire in France with provenance from a French private collection and previously owned since 1980, authenticated as original and legally obtainable for export.
Description from the seller
Geometric-period, painted-decor amphora with handles, Cyprus.
Amphora, about 30 cm tall and 28 cm wide, diameter of the opening 16.5 cm. It is characterized by an oval body and its wide neck with a round opening and small vertical lip.
The biconvex body features two round handles, vertical, raised at the shoulder; it rests on a small flared foot.
The monochrome decoration, light brown and still partially visible, shows a bird within a reed motif.
Ancient Greece, Phrygia, 6th/5th century BCE.
Dimensions: Height 29.6 cm - Width 28.2 cm.
Very good condition, slight restoration to the lip, one handle reglued.
Provenance: France, A.G.T. study.
