A lot of 76 vintage postcards from Italy depicting Venice, with historical views of the lagoon and iconic monuments, dated roughly 1900–1930, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Important and fascinating lot composed of 76 antique postcards dedicated to the city of Venice, with splendid historical views of the lagoon and its most iconic monuments.
The lot includes numerous images of St. Mark's Square, St. Mark's Basilica, Doge's Palace, the Grand Canal, gondolas, bridges and corners of the city, as well as views of the port, the islands and several historic palaces. The postcards feature a variety of techniques typical of the era: black and white, sepia and some period colorations.
This is a very decorative collection rich in subjects, ideal both for collectors of Italian historical postcards and for enthusiasts of the city of Venice and the historical photography of the early 20th century.
The postcards seem to date roughly to the first decades of the 20th century (circa 1900–1930), a period when Venice was one of the most common subjects in European postcard publishing.
Conditions
Overall good condition considering age, with normal signs of time, light patina, small marks on the corners or slight creases on some copies.
