Description from the seller
Sassen, Viviane (b. 1972). Flamboya.
Rome: Contrasto, 2008. First edition. 96 pp. Signed on the title page. Hardcover. 31 × 24.5 cm.
The Dutch photographer Viviane Sassen (b. 1972) is known for her distinctive visual style characterised by saturated colours, strong contrasts between light and shadow, and an often surreal approach to the human body. She gained international recognition through both her autonomous photographic work and fashion photography for major brands. Her childhood in Kenya has been an important source of inspiration for her work.
Flamboya (2008) is her first monograph and brings together photographs taken during her travels through Africa. The book combines staged and documentary elements and was selected by Martin Parr as one of the most important photobooks of the first decade of the 21st century.
Light, superficial signs of use to the cover and ink spots (printing errors) on two text pages. In addition, the pages have a faint mark along the top edge, visible only on the right-hand side of the pages (see photos). Overall in good condition, with no damage or marks to the photographs in the book.
