Item Description
This is a remarkable collection of 91 personal letters exchanged during the Taisho era (around 1921), offering a vivid and intimate window into daily life and personal communication in early 20th-century Japan.
Each letter is enclosed in its original envelope, hand-addressed in beautiful classical Japanese calligraphy using brush and ink. The envelopes bear authentic Imperial Japanese postage stamps and dated postmarks, making this collection not only a touching human document but also a valuable piece of philatelic history.
The correspondence appears to have been exchanged among individuals in the Mikawa / Aichi region (addresses referencing 碧海郡, 刈谷町, 藤井 etc.), and many envelopes still contain the original letters and documents inside. Reading the addresses and imagining the conversations and events these letters carried is a deeply evocative experience.
Stamps visible in the collection include:

10 Sen blue stamp (Imperial Japan, Taisho era)
3 Sen red stamp (Imperial Japan)
Census commemorative red stamp (大日本帝国 国勢調査記念)
