Description from the seller
Liu Bolin (Shandong, China, 1973) studied Sculpture at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, earning a Master of Fine Arts in 2001. Known as, 'The Invisible Man', he belongs to a generation of artists who contend with the aftereffects of the Cultural Revolution and the dizzying economic development that followed. Through his artistic practice he addresses social concerns of his country, especially with his 'camouflage' installations. Employing performance, photography, and social activism, Liu Bolin explores the tense relationship between the individual and society through 'disappearance' in settings charged with critique, restraint, and interest. His powerful images have attracted collaborations and invitations from institutions and figures such as the Louvre (Paris), Harper’s Bazaar magazine, JR, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Jon Bon Jovi, and Kenny Scharf. In 2015 he participated in the United Nations campaign 'The Global Goals', creating an image that represented 17 objectives — including the eradication of poverty, sustainable development, and the fight against inequality — by concealing himself among 193 flags of the world. His work has been shown in France, Argentina, Germany, the United States, Italy, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, China, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Israel, Colombia, South Korea, and Venezuela. He lives and works in Beijing.
