Description from the seller
1. Large Mug: Gerz (Traditional German Style)
The mug on the left is the most imposing and sober in the group. It is a classic example of handcrafted work from the Westerwald region, famous for gray clay and cobalt blue decoration.
Material: Salt-glazed stoneware with the typical slightly 'orange-peel' surface.
Decoration: Features a hand-engraved blue cobalt intense floral/abstract motif on a gray background. The lid is made of solid pewter with a lever shaped like an acorn.
Origin: The mark on the bottom (photo 30307) reads 'Gerz - Seit 1862'. Simon Peter Gerz is one of Germany's most famous mug producers. From the mark graphic, it seems to be a piece from the second half of the 20th century.
Very well preserved, a solid piece of high quality.
2. Medium Mug: "Made in Germany" (Polychrome Relief Style)
The one in the center is the most colorful and decorative mug, characterized by a three-dimensional high relief.
Material: Glazed ceramic.
Decoration: Depicts a traditional scene (a tavern and a historic cityscape) with vivid colors and raised details. The pewter lid is more worked and pointed than the first.
Origin: The mark on the bottom (photo 30302) bears a simple "Made in Germany" impressed in the paste. It is a typical piece from the German quality souvenir industry, intended for export or collectors.
Feature: The lower band has an ochre finish reminiscent of wood or terracotta.
3. Small Mug: "Franz" (Memories of the Dolomites)
The mug on the right is a smaller piece, probably a 0.25 L mug or a purely decorative item, tied to Alpine tourism.
Material: Hand-painted glazed ceramic.
Decoration: Shows specific mountain landscapes; the names "Campitello" and "Pozza" are clearly legible, famous locations in Val di Fassa (Trentino). It is adorned with Alpine flowers (edelweiss and gentians).
Origin: The mark on the bottom (photo 30304) reads "Handpainted - Franz - Handbemalt". "Franz" is a well-known mark for the production of high-quality hand-painted ceramic souvenirs, often sold in Alpine areas (Northern Italy, Austria, Germany).
Peculiarity: The pewter lid is finely engraved, proportionate to the small size of the object.
