Description from the seller

An antique Russian icon with "Four Selected Saints" (including St. Matrona, St. Eudokia, and St. Tatiana) from the 19th century (circa 1880).

Hand-painted with egg tempera on a wooden panel with a chalk ground and a gold grounding.

The painting is very fine and masterfully executed (see photos).

Typical method of icon painting in 18th- and 19th-century Tsarist Russia.

To the left of the four saints is St. Michael the Archangel, to the right the guardian angel. Above the four saints, Jesus Christ hovers on a cloud.

This is an Old Believer icon, presumably made to order.

The painting is fairly masterful and detailed (see photos).

Perfectly coordinated color contrasts and well-executed shading.

The painting contains very authentic craquelure (see photos).

Partial restorations are present (see photos).
Especially expressive and striking are the faces of the saints (see photos). The saints are inscribed. The inscriptions are clearly legible.

On the back there are cross-sponkas attached. Stable and solid wooden panel. The icon is in good condition with typical age-related signs of wear (see photos).

An icon for collectors and connoisseurs of the craft.

All details are clearly visible in the photos. Photos are part of the description.

Dimensions: 35 x 28.5 x 2.9 cm
