Description from the seller
The present pitcher consists of a cylindrical copper body with a mounted lid. Notable are the figurative and ornamentally designed metal fittings, including:
• a curved handle with an animal-head motif
• a plastically worked spout with decorative relief
• an applied relief medallion in the shape of a heart on the front with a figurative scene
• a profiled lid finial
The surfaces show age-related patina and signs of use typical for older copper objects, which emphasize the decorative character.
Manufacture / Style:
Such decorative copper kettles with mounted brass applications are typical of orientalist decorative works, produced in the late 19th century and particularly in the early 20th century. Many comparable pieces originate from Asia.
Some of these works were specifically manufactured for the European market and mainly served decorative purposes or as ornamental kettles.
Dating (estimation):
c. 1800 – 1850
Condition:
• age-related signs of use
• patina on copper
• no obvious structural damage evident (based on photographs)
Collector and decorative value:
Objects of this kind are mainly traded in the antique and collectors market as decorative metal works in the Asian style.
