AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Circa 1900, 22x28 cm.
"Rue animée de Biskra", a very beautiful portrait attributed to Alexandre Bougault (XIX).
Superb gelatin-silver print, in very good condition, loose (not mounted, rare), and a very beautiful preservation of contrasts, grays, and levels of detail.
Selenium salt toning (warm colors).

Settled in Biskra at the end of the 19th century, Alexandre Bougault opened a workshop there in the heart of an oasis then very frequented by European travelers. He develops a local production mixing portraits, religious figures and scenes of daily life.
His photographs are distinguished by sober framings, soft light and meticulous attention to faces, to fabrics and textures, giving his models an embodied intensity.

Petit PR conservatoire, not to be missed.

Will be shipped with its pouch and its neutral pH cardboard support (ideal for a collection in good condition).
