Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Type berbère des Aurès, a gelatin-silver print by Eugène Michel, circa 1900, 21 × 28 cm, in very good condition with a stamped signature.
Description from the seller
Circa 1900, 21x28 cm.
"Berber type from the Aurès", very beautiful portrait by Eugène Michel (late 19th / early 20th century).
Superb gelatin-silver print, in very good condition, loose (not mounted, rare), and a very fine preservation of contrast, grayscale tones and levels of detail.
Labeled in the negative and signed by a wet stamp on the back.
Eugène Michel was active in North Africa at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, where he worked both as photographer and publisher. His photographs mix urban views, landscapes, and so-called “types” portraits, with particular attention to light contrasts and architectural textures. At the crossroads of documentary and commercial publishing, his work contributes to the construction of a visual imaginary of the Maghreb intended for a European audience.
Worthy of framing.
Small PR conservatoire, not to be missed.
Will be shipped with its sleeve and its neutral-pH cardboard support (ideal for a collection in good condition).
