Description from the seller
Circa 1880, 19x26 cm.
"Mauresques d'Alger", a very beautiful portrait attributed to Alexandre Leroux (XIX).
Fine vintage albumen print, in very good condition, loose (not mounted, rare), with excellent preservation of contrasts, gray nuances and levels of detail.
Labeled on the negative.
Based in Algiers, Alexandre Leroux produced numerous studio photographs and portraits of local “types,” depicting men and women in traditional costumes, at the end of the nineteenth century. These images, often accompanied by captions such as “Moorish,” “Arab,” “City costume” or “Algerian type,” are numbered and distributed as prints or albums intended for European travelers.
Small conservator’s note, not to be missed.
Will be shipped with its sleeve and its neutral pH cardboard backing (ideal for a collection in good condition).
