Description from the seller
Antwerp – Stadsfeestzaal – construction phase 1905 – set of 7 original architectural photographs on cardboard (20.5 × 25.5 cm)
Rare set of 7 original architectural photographs of the Stadsfeestzaal in Antwerp
The photos show different views of the building, including images during the construction with scaffolding and later finished facades and architectural details of the dome. Such photographs were often made around 1900 as architectural documentation of important urban projects.
The Stadsfeestzaal was designed by city architect Alexis Van Mechelen and built between 1904 and 1908 on the Meir.
On the back of one of the photos is handwritten “20 juillet 1905,” which corresponds to the construction phase of the building.
The photos come from the personal archive of the Antwerp architectural family Vanhoenacker, which strengthens their historical value as documentation of architecture and urban development.
The photos are mounted on original cardboard with a decorative red border, typical of photographic presentations from the Belle Époque period.
