GRAVES FOR ALESSI
The American architect and designer Michael Graves (born 1934, Indianapolis, USA) developed this “Mantel Clock” in 1986 for the Italian design leader Alessi. Launched in 1988, it was acclaimed for its postmodern interpretation of classic design, with four ebony-tone columns in a Tuscan style that support a square pediment and the clock dial.
Graves commented on the project in 1988: 'In designing the mantel clock, I was interested in exploring the established tradition of seeing artifacts as miniature architectures. There are countless examples where furniture and objects sit in interiors as idealized items that derive their primary cues from proportioned architectural systems. I have always been fascinated by the ambiguity that arises between these hints of “indoor buildings” and their external predecessors.' (Alessi: la fabbrica del design', Accademia Press, 1998, p.93)
Shipped with particularly careful packaging included in the shipping cost.
I would be happy to be at your disposal after purchase for any information regarding the purchase of this wonderful and rare object!
