Description from the seller
Concerning ARCHIGRAM
Edited by Dennis Crompton
In the decade of the Beatles and the Moon landing, cybernetics and megacities, ARCHIGRAM invented new artifacts and situations that threatened the discipline of architecture itself: walking cities, plug-in universities and "clothes that are houses." Poetic and technological at the same time, utopian and rooted in social needs, their projects embodied the avant-garde architecture of the 1960s.
This volume serves as a guide and critical catalog of the group’s production between 1961 and 1974. It documents the collective’s iconic projects, such as Ron Herron’s Walking City and Peter Cook’s Plug-in City, using their characteristic Pop Art- and comics-influenced drawings. It was edited by Dennis Crompton, known as the group’s “technician” and keeper of the archives.
