The "85th Anniversary of the USSR" medal is a public, not state, award, issued to mark the anniversary (1922– 2007).
Made of brass, the obverse depicts the USSR coat of arms against a map of the Union, and the reverse bears the inscription "Union of Soviet Socialist Republics"
