Description from the seller
Antique pewter beer jug / pouring jug with lid – 19th century
Antique pewter jug with a hinged lid and thumb lift. The jug has a slender, elegant form with subtle ring decoration around the body and a broad, stable foot. The lid features a distinctive round knop and a curved thumb lift that allows easy opening while pouring.
At the bottom there are two small stamps/marks, including an angelic hallmark. Such marks are found on North European pewter from the 19th century. Based on its shape, construction and the style of the thumb lift, this jug can probably be dated to the second half of the 19th century.
The jug has a beautiful dark patina that has developed over many years and matches the age of the piece. There are light signs of wear, which are normal for a piece of this age.
This type of jug was used in the 19th century as a beer or wine jug in households, inns, and taverns.
Period: ca. 1860 – 1880
Material: tin (pewter)
Origin: probably Northern Europe, possibly German
Height: ca. 26 cm
Condition: good antique condition with normal signs of wear and a nice old patina
A decorative and collectible antique object that fits well in a pewter tin collection, historic tableware, or as a charming interior piece.
