Description from the seller
Rough Diamond Pendant / new
Set in 925 sterling silver
Includes leather cord
Weight: 1.48 g / 7.4 ct (weighed without the leather cord)
12.0 mm x 7.8 mm x 7.6 mm
New and unworn
Diamond is the cubic modification of carbon and, as a naturally occurring solid, a mineral in the class of elements. Diamond typically forms octahedral crystals, often with curved and striated faces. Other observed forms are the tetrahedron, dodecahedron and the cube. The crystals are transparent, colorless, or colored green, yellow, brown and, less commonly, orange, blue, pink, red or gray to black due to impurities (e.g., nitrogen or boron) or lattice defects.
Diamond is the hardest natural substance. On the Mohs scale it has a hardness of 10. Its grinding hardness according to the RoSiwal (also known as absolute hardness) is 140 times greater than that of corundum. The hardness of diamond, however, varies in different crystallographic directions (anisotropy). This makes it possible to grind diamond with diamond. In the diamond powder used for this purpose, the crystals are present in every orientation (statistical isotropy), so the hardest among them always acts on the surface being ground.
Diamond is optically isotropic with a high refractive index and high dispersion. It exhibits fluorescence and phosphorescence and is triboelektric. It has the highest thermal conductivity of all known minerals.
