Twelve 20 cm blue‑border faience plates by Creil et Montereau, circa 1880, numbered 1–12, with black reproductions of illustrations from Le Tour du Monde en 80 jours, in excellent condition with minimal signs of wear.
Description from the seller
Around the World in 80 Days.
Earthenware plates produced by Creil and Montereau around 1880. Complete series of the twelve talking plates (diameter 20 cm), numbered 1 to 12, in soft porcelain (kaolin) with a blue border featuring twelve scenes, black reproductions of the illustrations from the novel Around the World in 80 Days by de Neuville and L. Benett.
Production by Creil and Montereau around 1880. Mark “B & Cie / Déposé / Creil et Montereau” on the back. Very good condition. This fine, porous earthenware was all the more fragile as they were often everyday pieces that scratched easily. It is very difficult to encounter, as here, a complete set in very good condition, with no flaws or chips.
A very elegant series produced by the Creil manufacture, founded in 1797, which merged with that of Montereau in 1840. The Creil-Montereau manufactories will produce soft porcelains from 1844. The Creil factory closes its doors in 1895, the Montereau factory will survive until 1920, at which time it will be acquired by the Choisy-le-Roi manufactory.
