Menaa, vallée de l'Aurès
Description from the seller
Around 1900, 21x27 cm.
"Menaa, vallée de l'Aurès", very beautiful view by Alexandre Bougault (late 19th/early 20th century).
Superb gelatin-silver print on wove paper, selenium-toned, in very good condition, loose (not mounted, rare), and with a very beautiful preservation of contrasts, very lovely warm nuances characteristic and levels of detail.
Signed by a dry stamp at the bottom right, handwritten caption on the back.
Will be shipped with its sleeve and its neutral pH cardboard support (ideal for a collection in good condition).
Settled in Biskra at the end of the 19th century, Alexandre Bougault opened a studio there in the heart of an oasis then very frequented by European travelers. He develops a local production mixing portraits, religious figures and scenes of life.
His photographs are distinguished by sober framings, soft light and meticulous attention to faces, fabrics and textures, giving his subjects an embodied intensity.
Deserves framing.
Petit PR conservatoire, not to be missed.
