Silver monstrance – Paris, 1798-1809 – Henri-Antoine Dubois
Important silver monstrance of Neoclassical style resting on a rectangular four-foot pedestal.
The main faces are adorned with the Tetragram, the Tables of the Law, grapevines and sheaves of wheat, clearly affirming Eucharistic symbolism.
The baluster shaft with floral decoration supports a wide radiant glory topped by a cross.
Poinçons :
– 1er Coq (1798-1809)
– Large guarantee mark of Paris
– Master goldsmith Henri-Antoine Dubois (assayed circa 1798-1799)
One element of the glory is to be reattached (visible in the photo). Missing lunule. Light signs of use consistent with the period.
