Description from the seller

Ordination chalice in vermeil-silver with champlevé enamel – Belgium - Probably craftsman Delheid (Brussels)

A liturgical chalice in neo-Gothic style, in partly gilded silver (vermeil), kept in its original lined case.

The poly-lobed foot is richly decorated with grapevines, clusters, and tendrils, symbolic Eucharistic motifs, finely repoussé and chased.

It is adorned with four circular medallions in blue champlevé enamel of excellent quality, depicting:
• The Crucifixion – Christ on the cross surrounded by the Virgin and Saint John, with the inscription I.N.R.I.
• The Entombment of Christ
• Three episcopal saints, identified by inscriptions engraved on the reverse:
• Sanctus Petrus
• Sanctus Theophilus
• Sanctus Odilo Each medallion is framed by a vegetal engraving alternating matte and polished surfaces. The spherical knop is decorated with raised grapevines and a beaded frieze. The cup, internally gilded, shows ancient hammering and a homogeneous patina. The plaques on the reverse of the foot bear commemorative Latin inscriptions:
Plaque 1: DIE XXX NATI MCMXX → “Born on the thirtieth day, 1920”
Plaque 2: + DILECTO NEPOTI ODILIVS RICHARDVS → “To my dear nephew, Odilius Richardus”
Plaque 3: PETRO … THEOPHILVS ET → Reference to Saint Peter and Saint Theophilus (abbreviated form)
Plaque 4: SACERDOTI ORDINATO ANSCHARVS → “To Ansgar, ordained priest”

These inscriptions confirm that it is a chalice offered on the occasion of a priestly ordination, within a family setting.

Presence of an unidentified silversmith’s hallmark under the foot (private mark), not permitting formal geographic attribution, but the overall style, iconography and epigraphy point toward Central European production, probably in the Germanic-speaking area, early 20th century.
