Description from the seller
Reliquary in a medallion – Textile fragment of the pluvial (subucro) associated with S. Caetani – 19th century - Italy
Oval reliquary under glass, silvered metal mount (alloy not tested, visible oxidation), containing a textile fragment presented on a red background, surrounded by a radiating decoration in gold paper cutouts.
Original handwritten banner clearly indicating: “De Subucro Pluvialis S. Caetani”, i.e., a fragment from the lining of a pluvial linked to S. Caetani.
On the reverse, closure held by red silk threads and a red wax episcopal seal, coat of arms visible with a clerical hat with six tassels on each side (bishop). Threads and seal unbroken.
Probable dating: Early 19th century
Probable origin: Italy (Caetani family very active in the Roman ecclesiastical hierarchy).
Nature of the relic: textile (of subucro pluvialis), non-bone.
Condition: Oxidized mount, signs of wear. Original seal and threads, unbroken
