Icon - Quadripartite icon - Wood

It is a Russian Orthodox icon of a four-part type (divided into four scenes), very characteristic of the 18th–19th centuries.

1. Top left:
The Virgin with Child (Hodigitria type)
Mary points to Christ as “the way”
The Child Jesus blesses with the right hand

2. Top right:
Saint Nicholas of Myra
He is recognized by:
The book (Gospel)
Episcopal vestments
Inscription in Cyrillic (“Св. Николай”)

3. Bottom left:
Saint George
On a white horse, typical iconography of the vanquisher of evil

4. Bottom right:
Saint Demetrios of Thessaloniki
On a dark horse, with spear or weapon, also a warrior saint

This format is called:
“Icon of the protecting saints” or domestic icon
Very common in Russia: it combines figures highly venerated in a single panel
