Art Deco side table in the Amsterdamse School style, made of Dutch oak, with wavy turned legs and a brass top engraved with floral motifs; estimated period 1930–1940, 66 cm high and 49.5 cm in diameter, weighing about 5 kg, brown in colour, in good used condition.
Description from the seller
Beautiful Art Deco occasional table, typical of the Amsterdam School, made of nice oak with gracefully turned wavy legs. Very striking is the rounded underside of the legs.
The weight of the table is about 5 kg, height 66 cm, and diameter almost 50 cm. The table is made of Dutch oak, still dried in the old-fashioned way. The top of the occasional table is made of latoen brass that is engraved with floral images (see photos). Latoen brass is thin-rolled brass. This was then stretched over the wood of the top. In this way, a top was created that would not burn if a cigarette or cigar fell from the ashtray.
The table was probably manufactured in the 1930s. On the underside you can still read a number, the last two digits of which seem to be 32. This probably means the table was made in 1932. This type of table was often used as a smoking table. The table is still 100% original, with all original mounting materials, except for a single screw (see photos). The very thin brass lies slightly wavy (not tight) on the top. This is very common with this type of table. Due to the engraving, the brass is hard to tension tightly.
This table is still in very good condition and completely stable. Here and there it shows logical signs of use, and on one leg a thin edge of wood has broken (see photo). These are only logical signs of wear; easy to repair but not necessary. The table can still be used as a smoking table, but of course also as a side table.
The table will be carefully packed and shipped insured.
