Description from the seller
A fine Western Asiatic gold bead, comprised of five spherical granules conjoined to form a circular shape resembling a flower. The bead is perforated through the middle for suspension. Earthly encrustations and signs of wear as consistent with age, such as indentations, pitting, and scratches.
Please take note of the measurements.
Many grand civilisations inhabited the area of Western Asia in Antiquity, and their wealth and prosperity are witnessed by the very sophisticated precious metal crafting of jewellery. Gold would have been hammered down to a thin layer and manipulated into different shapes. Gold and silver jewellery would have featured gold granules, glass and semi-precious stone inlays and detailed engravings. Very fine granulation along with filigree, were at the centre of Western Asiatic jewellery production and were later adopted by the Greeks, Etruscans and Romans.
Measurements: W 0.8cm
Weight: 1.29g
Provenance: Ex Japanese private collection, deceased, 1970-2010.
Catawiki disclaimer: This object has been dated based on style by the seller . No further tests, such as an analysis of metals(XRF-test) have been conducted to check the integrity of the piece.
