Spice box - Wood

Travel spice case, made of walnut or oak wood, measures 20 x 13 x 14.5 cm and weighs 1.15 kg. Antique and datable to the mid-19th to early-20th century, it presents in its original patina with signs of age-related wear and minor consolidations carried out at an undated time (see photos no. 12,14,15,19,20). Crafted in a noble wood, it features a hinged door that opens downward, a common characteristic of travel furniture of the period to protect the contents during transport and, once opened, to serve as a support surface and reveal the inner series of drawers: one upper drawer and two smaller lower drawers adorned with small ring handles on each drawer and a top iron locking system, coherent with the style of “ferri coevi” of the 18th/19th century. A decidedly special and collectible item for its compact size and excellent state of preservation.
