Elegant pair of solid wood chairs from the early 1900s with a Renaissance Revival style, featuring high backrests, jacquard floral fabric upholstery, metal studded edges, front turned column legs and a robust H-brace, overall dimensions 95.8 cm high by 44.5 cm wide by 41.5 cm deep and a weight of 6.7 kg.
Description from the seller
Elegant pair of solid wood chairs from the early 20th century. The design recalls Renaissance Revival norms, featuring strict lines and a solid, austere structure.
The chairs have a high back with an openwork design, a central padded inset upholstered in jacquard fabric with floral motifs, finished along the edges by a row of bronzed metal studs that give a strong, vintage character.
The base is particularly ornate, with front legs shaped as turned columns ending in tulip feet, connected by a robust H-stretcher that guarantees maximum stability.
Technical Details:
Material: Solid wood (probably walnut or stained beech).
Era: Early 1900s.
Style: Renaissance Revival / Umbertine.
Upholstery: Tapestry-woven jacquard fabric with floral motifs.
Condition:
The chairs are structurally intact and solid. As antique items, they show the normal signs of time and wear that attest to their authenticity:
Wood: Small nicks and surface scratches (as visible in close-up photo).
Fabric: The upholstery and seat fabric show evident signs of wear and tears at the corners. An reupholstery intervention is recommended to restore them to their former splendor, although they retain a great charming “shabby” appeal in their current state.
Under-seat: The base has been reinforced with modern elastic straps to ensure functionality (as shown in the underside photo).
