Tesla Model 308U Talisman radio receiver from 1950, in excellent physical condition and tested as functional, with original user manual, serial number 0100030 and weighing 3 kg.
Description from the seller
Legendary Tesla Talisman 308U valve radio, a 1950s Streamline design masterpiece, a unique decorative object ready to be displayed in a living room or added to a high-end collection. Its unmistakable style emphasizes aerodynamic shapes and curved corners to suggest speed and modernity. Nicknamed "the drop", it is considered an icon of industrial design, exhibited in the world's leading museums (including in the Victoria and Albert Museum's permanent collection in London).
CONDITIONS: AESTHETIC: excellent, a collection specimen
Case: brown bakelite, mirror-polished, in superb condition.
Talking Dial: perfect, the glass with the city names is intact, the inscriptions are sharp and untouched, the original backlighting works perfectly.
Knobs: original, rotate freely and move smoothly.
Rear panel: original rear panel intact, technical inscriptions in perfect conservation (Tesla logo, model, valve layout, etc.).
Metal chassis: in excellent cosmetic condition, with the metal plate affixed to the back bearing the indications: “TESLA - Mod. 308U - Serial No. 0100030 - 48W - 120/220V”.
TECHNICAL CONDITIONS: the radio is functional (receives signals from a modulated signal generator perfectly). All internal components (valves, capacitors, resistors, coils, etc.) are intact and original.
Covers the original U-series valve set: UCH21 (converter), UCH21 (AF amp and pre-IF), UBL21 (power output and detector) and UY1N (rectifier).
ATTENTION! IMPORTANT! RISK OF ELECTROCUTION, POTENTIALLY FATAL!
This historic collector receiver (from the 1950s) does not have an isolation transformer to isolate the internal circuits from the 230 V AC mains. The metal chassis of the radio is directly connected to one of the two poles of the 230 V AC wall plug, with a serious risk of electrocution. The equipment’s earth/grounding has not been designed or installed by Tesla, nor can it be installed. For all these reasons the radio does not comply with electrical safety regulations and is therefore considered extremely dangerous for anyone not taking proper precautions. It is an electrical device over 70 years old, so any component can be degraded and/or short-circuited, thereby increasing the risk of electric shocks, burns, or fires.
Therefore this historic collector receiver must be operated only by adults with the necessary theoretical-practical technical training, who must employ, in order to avoid the risk of electrocution—even fatal—, all indispensable safety measures (isolation transformers, residual-current devices, personal protective equipment, insulating mats, etc.).
