Description from the seller
Anonymous — The Outlaws of the Island of Love — Manuscript — Circa 1918
Original, unique manuscript that constitutes a novel comprising 31 numbered chapters, each of about ten leaves.
The author of this text is a former gendarmerie sergeant whose precise identity is not mentioned. His writings were handed to Félix Celval after the Great War.
Félix Celval (1875-1953) was a songwriter, author of revues and director of French theatre, particularly active on the Lyon stage in the early 20th century. A figure of the local cultural life, he directed several entertainment venues and gathered this manuscript from a gendarmerie sergeant toward the end of the Great War.
The book relates a romantic fiction divided into chapters whose plot unfolds in a milieu of filibusters or misfits operating on an “Island of Love.”
A curiosity."
