Heavy war cross in solid silver

The insignia is in the shape of a Maltese cross, superimposed on two crossed swords.
The horizontal arms of the cross bear the inscriptions:
"ЗА СЛУЖБУ" (For service)
and "НА КАВКАЗѢ" (Polish: "In the Caucasus").
At the top is the monogram of Tsar Alexander II and at the bottom the date "1864". In the center of the cross, a double-headed eagle, which is the coat of arms of the Russian Empire.
The reverse is smooth and fitted with a strong pin-back, which allows it to be pinned directly to the uniform.
The insignia had no ribbon and was worn below other orders and medals.
