Title: Ginge - Danish Design - Vintage Bread Slicer / Guillotine - Light Blue / Baby Blue - 1960s
Description
Up for auction is a beautiful piece of Danish industrial history: the classic Ginge bread slicer in a rare and highly sought-after light blue finish.
Designed in the mid-20th century, this "bread guillotine" was a staple in Danish households for decades, used to slice dense rye bread with precision. Today, it has become a cult interior design object, used as a sculptural kitchen accessory, a unique bookend, or even a quirky plant holder.
Design & Aesthetic
This model features the iconic heavy cast iron frame and a solid wood base. The light blue color is original and provides a wonderful retro contrast to the industrial steel blade and the natural wood. It captures the optimistic "Pastel Era" of the 1950s and 60s perfectly.
Functionality & Details
• Adjustable: Features a brass or steel screw to adjust the thickness of the slices.
• Material: Cast iron, lacquered steel, and solid wood (beech).
• Brand: Original "Ginge" branding is visible on the frame/handle, a mark of true Danish quality.
Condition
• Overall: Excellent vintage condition with a beautiful, natural patina.
• Paint: The original light blue lacquer is well-preserved with only minor signs of age, adding to its authentic character. (Please see photos).
• Blade: The blade is intact and can still be sharpened for actual use if desired.
• Wood: The wooden base is sturdy and has been cleaned/treated to maintain its glow.
Dimensions
• Length: 35 cm
• Width: 24 cm
• Height: 25 cm
• Weight: Approx. 3.2 kg
