AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Gelria Arnhem ceramic platter – hand-painted – Art Deco period

A particularly decorative ceramic platter from Gelria Arnhem, executed in bold colors and an expressive floral decoration. This fine piece of Dutch ceramics is hand-painted and represents the characteristic style of Dutch ceramic production from the early 20th century.

The round platter features a lively flower and leaf motif in deep shades of purple, green, ocher, blue and terracotta, framed by a dark border. The strong contour lines and the decorative use of color align with the Art Deco and late Art Nouveau influences that were popular in the 1920s–1930s within Dutch ceramic art.

On the underside there is the signature “Flora Arnhem Holland – Gelria,” with model designation. This marking refers to the Plateelfabriek Gelria in Arnhem, a factory known from the early 20th century for its artistically painted earthenware. Gelria produced decorative and usable objects with often botanical or stylized decorations, with many pieces finished by hand by ceramic painters.

Due to its size and shape, this piece can be used as a decorative platter, wall plate, or centerpiece on a table or cabinet.

A characterful piece of Dutch ceramics that will appeal to both Arnhem pottery collectors and lovers of Art Deco and Art Nouveau. Small signs of use are visible in the photo.
