Porcelain figure of a gaita player, Gaitera, made in Spain by Algora in the 1970s–1980s; measures 24 cm high, 10 cm wide and 10 cm deep; in good condition with minor signs of wear and a discreet restoration to the finish, usually attributed to the Taller Algora.
Description from the seller
The ceramic figure represents a gaita player modeled by the house Algora in the second half of the twentieth century, a period in which the Madrid workshop achieved great technical maturity and a highly recognizable style. The piece shows the performer in full action, holding the bagpipe naturally and conveying that mix of concentration and serenity so characteristic of Algora’s genre figures. The facial modeling is delicate, with fine features and a restrained expression, while the garment, with broad lines and strongly marked folds, is enriched with golden applications that give it a ceremonial and elegant air. The porcelain is worked with Algora’s usual meticulousness, evident in the fingers pressing the instrument, in the fall of the fabric, and in the overall harmony of the posture.
The bagpipe bears a restoration in its finish, probably in the tip area or the drone, a discreet intervention that does not break the aesthetic reading of the ensemble and that respects the original intention of the modeling. As is the case with many Algora pieces, the specific authorship of the sculptor may not be indicated, since much of the production was attributed to the workshop as a whole. José Luis Algora, founder and artistic director, supervised the designs, and several modelers collaborated in creating figures, so the piece is usually considered a work of the Algora Workshop unless the base or the numbering indicate something more specific.
Certified shipping and good packaging.
