Heavy quality antique reliquary or relic box, executed in solid bronze and designed in a powerful Gothic Revival style, dating circa 1900–1910.
This solid bronze rectangular casket features a hinged lid and is richly decorated on all sides with finely modelled bas-relief panels depicting medieval and religious figures set within architectural Gothic arches. The composition reflects the late phase of the Gothic Revival movement, when craftsmanship and historicist ornamentation were once again highly appreciated around the turn of the century.
The interior reveals its original warm-toned textile lining, providing a refined contrast to the golden exterior. The inside of the lid is beautifully finished with a stylized floral medallion, demonstrating careful attention to detail throughout.
This large box has a strong sculptural presence and excellent casting depth. The bronze has been professionally polished and waxed, preserving the authentic aged patina while enhancing the warm, noble tone of the metal. The relief decoration remains crisp and expressive, with beautiful depth and shadow play.
