Description from the seller

RARE Paired Benches "Hongisto" – Ilmari TAPIOVAARA – Laukaan Puu Edition (c. 1960)

THE ESSENCE OF FINNISH MODERNISM

Masterpiece of Scandinavian design, this rare pair of benches model "Hongisto" was designed by the renowned Finnish designer Ilmari TAPIOVAARA (1914-1999). This series, published by Laukaan Puu, perfectly embodies the creator's philosophy: functional, robust furniture with an absolute purity of line, aimed at elevating natural materials.

TECHNICAL FEATURES & DIMENSIONS:
Designer: Ilmari Tapiovaara

Publisher: Laukaan Puu (Publisher's brand present on the back of each piece)

Model: Hongisto (creation circa 1963)

Materials: Rectangular seat in solid pine with visible grain.

Frame: Square-section base in original cream-colored lacquered wood.

Dimensions (per bench):
- Length: 147.5 cm
- Height: 42 cm
- Depth: 35 cm
- Weight: Substantial (testament to the quality of solid wood).

CONDITION:
The set is in a beautiful vintage-usage condition. The frames are perfectly sound, stable and robust. The natural patina of the pine and the light signs of use on the cream lacquer testify to the authenticity of these 60s pieces and reinforce their historic character. A set in its “as-found” state, very appealing.

WHY IS THIS PIECE EXCEPTIONAL?
The Hongisto model has become an icon of the "Rustic Modernism" style. Finding a bench is already an opportunity, but owning the original pair is extremely rare on the market. Whether for an impressive entry hall, around a large dining table, or at the foot of a bed, these benches are safe investments whose value continues to rise in international design markets.
