Description from the seller
Celtic bronze male votive figure — Iron Age, circa 2nd century BC – 1st century AD
An interesting bronze votive figure depicting a standing nude male figure, dated to the Late Iron Age (approximately 2nd century BC – 1st century AD), within the European Celtic cultural sphere.
The figure displays schematic and stylized features, with an oval head, barely defined facial features and simplified limbs. The arms are slightly bent, and the body is characterized by its verticality and frontal stance. The representation of the erect male sex, common in such productions, is associated with concepts of fertility, virility and symbolic protection within Celtic belief systems.
Such pieces are typically interpreted as ex-votos or ritual objects, possibly deposited in sanctuaries or sacred spaces.
The surface displays an attractive ancient patina with green and dark tones, the result of natural bronze oxidation over the centuries.
A truly representative and authentic example of Celtic bronze work, with strong archaeological interest and excellent presence.
