Mookaite is a vibrant, silica-rich, opaque variety of chalcedony or porcellanite found only in Western Australia, known for its bold yellow, red, maroon, and cream banding. It is a grounding stone often used in jewellery and healing for its supposed ability to aid decision-making and boost energy, often called "Australian Jasper".

Origin: Exclusively sourced near Mooka Creek in the Kennedy Ranges of Western Australia.
Composition: A silicified porcelanite or radiolarite formed from microscopic marine fossils during the Cretaceous period.
Colours: Combines red, yellow, cream, brown, mauve, and purple, often in mixed patterns.
Hardness: Typically 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale, making it durable for jewellery.

Geological & Commercial Facts
While often labeled "Mookaite Jasper" in the crystal market, geologically it is a silicified porcelanite or radiolarite, not a pure chalcedony jasper. Its name comes from the Aboriginal word "mooka," meaning "running waters," notes Gemstones.com. It is highly prized by lapidaries because of its dramatic colour contrasts and ability to take a high polish.
