Description from the seller
Poland – Stephen Báthory (1576–1586)
Silver 3 Groschen (Trojak) 1586, Riga – PCGS AU50 (Kopicki 8097, variety w/III)
A historically important and collectible silver trojak struck in 1586 at the Riga mint during the reign of Stephen Báthory – one of the most distinguished rulers of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth.
This issue represents the final year of Báthory’s reign, making it especially desirable among collectors of early Polish coinage.
Graded by PCGS as AU50 (About Uncirculated), the coin shows light circulation wear with strong remaining detail and attractive eye appeal.
Specifications:
Ruler: Stephen Báthory
Denomination: 3 Groschen (Trojak)
Year: 1586
Mint: Riga
Material: Silver
Grade: PCGS AU50
Reference: Kopicki 8097 (variety w/III)

Description: The obverse features a well-defined portrait of the king with clear crown details and a sharp legend. The facial features remain well preserved, with only light wear on the highest points.
The reverse displays the characteristic Riga city gate motif with inscriptions and date. Details are strong and clearly visible, especially for this early issue.
The coin is covered with a natural, darker patina, enhancing its authenticity and giving it an attractive historical character.
Coins of Stephen Báthory from Riga, particularly catalogued as Kopicki 8097, are sought after, and examples in certified AU condition are increasingly difficult to find.
Encapsulated in an original PCGS holder, ensuring authenticity and long-term protection.
