Description from the seller
Magnificent silver model of a historic galleon – signed on the base as 'B.H. Richard' – Italy, 20th century
Impressive miniature sculpture representing a classic European galleon, made in silver with a high level of detail and mounted on an elegant wooden base.
This type of vessel, the galleon, was one of the fundamental pillars of European maritime expansion between the 16th and 18th centuries. Used for both trade and exploration and defense, the galleon symbolizes the era of great discoveries and the naval power of empires such as Spain and other Mediterranean realms.
The piece captures with great precision the essence of these historic ships:
• full sail plan with multiple masts
• intricate rigging manually crafted
• richly detailed hull with reliefs and architectural structures
• flags and decorative elements evoking classical navigation
Signed on the base as 'B.H. Richard', which adds collectible interest and suggests European production, probably Italian.
Material and technique:
• Silver (marked 800)
• Handcrafted with manual assembly
• Solid wooden base
Measurements:
• Height: 16.5 cm
• Length: 15.5 cm
• Width: 5.5 cm
Weight:
• Total weight: 400 g
• Weight of the ship (silver only): 300 g
Condition:
Good overall condition with patina appropriate to the passage of time. Light wear on ropes and sails, consistent with its artisanal character.
