Description from the seller
Amber-Glass Kitchen Jars in Italian Mid-Century Amber Glass – Set of 9 – circa 1955–1960
Elegant set of nine Italian amber glass jars, dating from the mid-20th century (circa 1955–1960), complete with their original stoppers.
These containers were originally intended for use in kitchens, pantries and grocers, where amber glass was used for its ability to protect the contents from light, making it ideal for storing spices, herbs, tea, sugar and other dry ingredients.
The design represents a typical example of mid-century Italian production
The stoppers bear the inscription “Plastique Alimentaire,” indicating material suitable for contact with food, while the bases are marked “Made in Italy,” confirming Italian production.
In terms of shape, glass quality and markings, the set is consistent with Italian industrial production from the 1950s–60s.
Today these jars are both functional and decorative, ideal for:
- kitchen shelves
- pantry
- grocer’s or apothecary-style interiors
- vintage, rustic or mid-century interiors
The amber glass gives a warm and authentic character, with a strong aesthetic presence.
Provenance
The set comes from my grandmother’s kitchen, where it was given as a wedding gift many decades ago.
She is now 89 years old, and the jars have always been carefully kept in her home.
Not being used daily, they are still in very good condition, with bright, well-preserved glass.
