Gouda earthenware jug – Plateelfabriek Zuid-Holland – decor “Dainler” – hand-painted Art Deco ceramics

A particularly decorative Gouda earthenware jug from Plateelfabriek Zuid-Holland (PZH), executed in the characteristic and colorful Dainler decor. This handsome object perfectly reflects the rich tradition of Dutch decorative ceramics from the first half of the 20th century.

The jug has an elegant globular body with a slender neck and a distinctly shaped handle. The composition is enhanced by a harmonious combination of colors: warm orange, deep green, lilac, blue and ocher yellow, framed by fine gold contour lines. The decoration consists of stylized floral motifs and graceful scrolls that are closely related to the Art Deco style, in which geometry and ornament meet.

Under the neck there is a decorative band with triangular patterns in turquoise and green, while the underside is accentuated with a contrasting dark base and a blue-and-white edge. This composition is characteristic of Gouda plateel, which gained international recognition from the early 20th century.
