WMF silver-plated metal box from the early 20th century (1900–1910), in Jugendstil/Art Nouveau style, measuring 9 cm high, 12.5 cm wide and 9 cm deep and weighing 390 g, in good used condition with minor signs of age and spots.
Description from the seller
WMF silver-plated casket – early 20th century
A beautiful silver-plated small box from the renowned German manufacturer WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik), dating from the early 20th century. The box is richly decorated with geometric and floral motifs, where the relief details and borders clearly show the influence of the Jugendstil/Art Nouveau period.
WMF was known in this period for its high-quality silver-plated objects, where craftsmanship and industrial precision came together. This box is a good example of that: a solidly built object with a refined finish, where the play between matte and polished surfaces creates a lively appearance.
The slightly domed lid and the detailed ornamentation lend the piece an almost architectural character, typical of designs from this period. The patina and signs of wear contribute to the authenticity and emphasize the age of the object.
A decorative and collectible item that retains value both as an ornamental piece and a functional box, and a fine example of early 20th-century German metalworking.
