Description from the seller
Silver-Plated Serving Tureen on Stand – Domed Cloche Lid – Butterscotch Bakelite Finial – Early 20th Century
An elegant and highly decorative serving tureen raised on an ornate stand, crafted in the refined tradition of early 20th-century, circa 1910–1930 (Edwardian era to early interwar period) European tableware.
Executed in high-quality EPNS silver plate, a premium electroplated standard widely used in fine hotel and formal dining silver, the piece displays a strong Edwardian Revival character through its architectural form and neoclassical ornamentation.
A polished domed cloche lid crowns the form, finished with a distinctive butterscotch bakelite finial that adds a warm tonal contrast to the cool silver surface. Twin sculptural side handles and a finely cast four-legged stand with paw feet create a balanced, stately silhouette suited to formal table settings.
The tureen opens to reveal a removable inner liner and a pierced strainer insert, allowing for versatile serving. A retaining chain secures the lid – a quality functional detail typical of superior table service pieces.
The reflective silver finish gives the piece a refined dining-room presence, equally suited for use or display.
Condition is good vintage with age-appropriate wear. The silver plate shows light surface marks and polishing traces consistent with careful use. Minor patina is visible in recesses, enhancing the relief decoration. A small indentation is present on the body, visible upon close inspection and consistent with age and use. Structurally sound and complete, with lid, liner and strainer present.
A sophisticated dining centrepiece and a highly decorative example of classic silver-plated tableware.
