Gnathia Skyphos from Magna Graecia, a circa 300–270 BC Hellenistic black-glazed ceramic skyphos with two horizontal handles and a vivid polychrome botanical garland, 89.6 mm high and 125.17 g in very good plus condition, acquired in 2025 from France via an auction house, previously owned by a gallery/antique dealer since 1970, authentic with a certificate of authenticity and legal provenance.

Technical Description:
An exceptional Hellenistic black-glazed ceramic skyphos, representative of the refined production from the Gnathia workshops. The vessel features a slender body with two horizontal handles and is decorated using the over-painting technique with exceptionally well-preserved polychrome pigments (white, yellow, and ochre). The upper register displays linear geometric motifs, while the main body is encircled by a botanical garland of extraordinary chromatic vividness and detail.
Provenance:
This piece comes from a distinguished European private collection formed in the 1970s. Its long-standing provenance ensures its legal status and collector value.
Condition:
Authentic specimen in excellent condition. Minor, ancient chips are present on the rim and foot, consistent with its age, without compromising the structural integrity or aesthetic impact. The black glaze retains a superb original luster. No modern restorations or overpainting detected.
