Description from the seller

A typical Third Intermediate Period blue faience worker shabti. Transliteration of the vertical hieroglyphs on the front side: The Osiris, Ta-neb [...]. Unclear what comes after the 'neb' hieroglyph. Arms are crossed on its chest and holding a hoe in each hand. The shabti wears the seshed headband, helping its resurrection. On the backside it wears a square basket with rope going over the shoulders, but also to the sides, perhaps for carrying water in addition to the basket.

A second small blue faience shabti which some damage to the front of the head.

Egyptians believed that in the afterlife, the dead could be required to perform manual labor (especially agricultural work) for the gods. Shabtis were placed in tombs to do this work on behalf of the deceased.

Dimensions: 9,8 cm and 6,1 cm

Condition: part head and part feet damaged.

Provenance: Dutch collection. Bought at German auction house, with German export license. Ex private German collection since 2012 in Starnberg. Before that from a German collector since 1905. On the back of the bigger shabti was a old label with: 'Theben - Oct/Nov - 1905'. Now lost after cleaning the backside, but it is still mentioned in the auction house catalogue.

Shipping:
- Tracked and insured shipping.
- Extra safe packaging. If necessary double boxed.
- Shipping within 3 workdays after auction and payment.
- Combined shipping if you buy more than 1 item in the same auction.
- For buyers outside the European Union (EU) a Dutch export license is required. This will take several weeks to arrange.
- Any other costs or charges such as customs or import duties, customs clearance and handling may also apply during the shipment of your lot and will be charged to the buyer by the involved party at a later stage if applicable (outside EU).
